Growing Moss

Growing Moss is a selection of paintings by West Seattle artist Macki Stratton. These works are a nod to the parallels of growing a shade garden and a tiny human.

Moss has been a source of inspiration for color and form for many years, and it’s hard to pinpoint when the obsession began, but peak obsession is probably naming your child Morris because Moss is a traditional nickname for it.

A moss colony doesn’t happen overnight, and neither did this body of work, some pieces have been pulled from the archives and some were finished the day of the opening.

In these unprecedented times, we can look to these primordial plants for inspiration on resilience and community coming together to survive.
